With the discoveries of how to bring a god back from the brink, as well as how to realign the leylines of Loon, Tren and Penumbra have been saved! Read about it here, where you will also find nested starters for speaking with Zephyr and their family.

A new NPC starter has appeared: Bren is in the Meadous and back in her right mind, at least for the moment. Her twin, Tren, remains Lost as far as the gods are able to tell. Bren's improved condition is thanks to Gabriel's discovery that Okota's Wheel, a totem of Instinct, can be used to reawaken godly instincts.

Time is running short for Penumbra and its gods. The world is growing increasingly unstable, with disastrous results for its residents and visitors. New NPC/Exploration prompts are available as the disaster unfolds, as well as a sandbox option for coping with this supernatural disaster.

Meanwhile, something potentially even worse has happened: Zephyr's their flock have been caught red-handed by the godling's parents. Head over to the event's Network Communications header to face the wrath of the gods!

On April 25, residents of the Meadous will wake to a note from Zephyr at their bedside. Regardless of whether or not a character can normally read, they are able to understand it, though the writing is hurried and messy.

Everyone,

Something really bad has happened. My brother Tren is Lost and it's making his twin sister, Bren, really sick. I can't find him, but I can hear him! I think we can still help him but I can't do it by myself. Please come to the playground as quick as you can!

Love,
Zephyr

The Leopard's Spots has come to an end! The final IC wrap up where your characters have one last chance to (briefly) say goodbye is up; it also contains a summary of the results of the OOC vote.

I will continue backtagging over the next week; if there is any information your character would really liked to have found out from one of the NPCs but never had a chance, I am also happy to summarize/handwave those conversations.

Thank you all for sticking with this event through to the end, and thank you for throwing me some twists I wasn't expecting!

As a reminder to players, please respond to the previous OOC post regarding what your characters would like to do with Okota and their totem. The deadline for responses is Sunday, July 28, at 11:59 PST. After that time, I will tally the responses and post a final update with the outcome of the event.

There are currently two wishes in the works for magical items to help the police officers of Harmony City help keep Okota contained if the players decide to either have her kept captive and/or placed in a godly parole program. Each item will cost a total of 1,000 points, and each character can submit up to 250 points for each wish (meaning we'll need four characters to cooperate on each wish, but those characters can be repeated across both wishes). If either or both wishes do not meet the threshold, those points will not be spent and the wish(es) will be cancelled.

The first wish is for a cage that can contain Okota regardless of what form they take. Points for that wish can be submitted here. Zephyr will be able to make a cage that can be changed in size so it's possible for the police to transport Okota in one of her smaller forms.

The second wish is for a GPS tracker to be implanted in Okota, which they will not be able to remove and which will allow the police to know Okota's whereabouts. Points for that wish can be submitted here.

With the shapeshifter captured, we have reached the home stretch! Please check out the new Part 4 starter for speaking with a very angry (but currently cooperative) cat. Time to clear up what's been going on!

Additionally, once your character has had a chance to get answers to their burning questions, please use this post for discussion of how your character(s) would like to resolve this situation. The two main questions to keep in mind are:

1. What does your character think should be done with the totem?

2. What does your character think should be done with the captured shapeshifter?

Please take your time finding out all the information you need to know in order to make those decisions. I'll keep an eye on this post and answer any logistical questions that come up. Thank you!

General Status Updates, July 25:

After the people of the Meadous have talked with Okota and the other NPCs, the general attitude of the NPCs is as follows:

1. Okota is becoming grudgingly willing to at least consider foregoing their attempt to revert their people to total savagery in favor of influencing the world in smaller ways, but they're clearly not thrilled about it and there's a clear risk that they'll go back to their old ways if left to their own devices.

2. Tawnya and Mitch are willing to take guardianship of Okota, but only if they have some way to keep a god in check. Summer is on board with a rehabilitation effort and will also assist. They acknowledge that a few of the points Okota has made about the negative effects of conformity and a move away from instinctive behavior are true, but on the whole they find her views extreme and are strongly opposed to her original plan.

3. Wyatt just wants to hide the totem, and can be persuaded to leave it in the Meadous.

4. Several players have suggested devices to help Mitch and Tawnya keep Okota in check. Currently those suggestions include a cage that can contain Okota in any form and a tracking device Okota can't remove. Each device would cost 1,000 wishing points; there will be another update on Saturday to gather points from any characters who want to contribute to one or more wishes.

The deadline for voting on solutions is Sunday, July 28, at 11:59 PST.

Update, July 29: Voting is now closed. Thank you all for your input!

A new prompt is now up: Wyatt and Logan have arrived in the Meadous with Okota's wheel in tow. They can be found at the Rec Center, as noted on the bulletin board by Dr. Watson.

I'd like to thank everyone for their patience and for sticking with this story past its scheduled conclusion! This has definitely been a learning experience for me regarding how to pace an event in this format. I'm looking forward to uncovering the answers to the remaining unsolved mysteries and seeing what you decide to do with this thief and his stolen goods!

As we near the end of the time allotted for The Leopard's Spots, a few things have shifted again in the setting. Adjusted prompts for part 3A are up and running here. As always if you would like to follow up on a lead or explore something that isn't in one of the prompts, or if you would like to get involved but aren't sure where to do that, please contact me at [plurk.com profile] yawningdodo or by PMing the [personal profile] harmony_city NPC account.

To help tie things together, here's a quick round-up of information that has recently been posted to the bulletin board:

Royce and K have confirmed that Wyatt Grayson Bones, one of the high school students who toured the museum on June 19, is the person who checked out every book at the public library related to ancient totemism. It also looks like Wyatt was hiding something in his childhood playhouse, and that the playhouse was torn apart by some kind of shapeshifter. He also had some creepy twig dolls in his room; is he performing some kind of magic?

Wyatt's home, as well as the homes of all the other students who went on the field trip, are easily found thanks to Brian sharing their school files with the Meadous and plotting all their homes on a map.

Characters who have come in contact with the ruins in Black Rock Park have begun behaving animalistically and drawing wheels reminiscent of the ones in the museum. Brian and Ienzo noted the strange behavior of a student named Buckley Fields who had been to the park; Ienzo came back later to warn investigators to be cautious in Black Rock Park. Rhys was able to confirm that he'd sensed some kind of power in that place and that it seemed to him to be some kind of very old crossroads. A similar descent into instinctive behavior has been noted in regards to Virginia White, curator of the museum, but there are unexplained differences in how the symptoms have proceeded for her compared to other characters. Rhys theorized about why this is happening to people based on a book that links the totems to instincts, archetypes, and the "true self."

Quark shared that he had spoken with Wyatt's mom, Summer, who told him that Wyatt had not been drawing the circles that seem to be symptomatic of contact with Black Rock Park. Quark believes Wyatt's friend, Logan Hairis (another of the students who went on the field trip) knows more than he's letting on. He and Rhys also confirmed that House had fallen victim to the effects of Black Rock Park. People might also notice that Brian is behaving more strangely than usual; he seems fixated on wheels as well and says there's a "ghost" in Black Rock Park.

Characters may also remember that House posted a notice about a squirrel with a torn ear and bandaged arm and shoulder who is also searching for Wyatt.

As we near the end of the first week of the event, it's time for players to decide what new locations their characters will investigate! Please comment to this post with any new locations you'd like to investigate. The locations you list here will form the basis of the next round of investigation prompts, which I plan to put up by tomorrow night (Friday, June 28). This is not a vote; literally every suggestion posted here will be included in the Part Two prompts in some fashion, though any that aren't plot-relevant may be relegated to non-NPC open setting prompts.

As you think of locations you'd like to check out, remember that Harmony City is a more or less modern city where it's not particularly difficult to look up the addresses of businesses, schools, and often even the home addresses of interesting individuals. Remember, too, that the bulletin board is a great place for your characters to ICly share leads (and thank you Brian for sharing a helpful drawing of the totem!).

I will continue to boomerang NPC tags and get info out to players on the Part One prompts. Please feel free to discuss happenings and ask any ooc questions in the comments below, and remember to put in your location requests by tomorrow night!

Please meet me at the playground tomorrow at 3:00pm. I know that's really early for some of you guys who are nocturnal, but this can't wait very long.

Hey Team,

Libra's Chariot has come to an end! The final IC wrap post where your characters will be able to interact one last time with Madame is up.

I will be backtagging this and the event for the next week. If threads are not concluded at that point, I will contact you to hash out how the thread would have gone or provide a summary that you can work off of if the thread is exploration-based.

If you have any questions about what your characters found or what they might have found if they'd gone snooping further, please feel free to post them here.

Thank you everyone who participated in this event!

We are coming down to the very end of the event and there is a final option for what to do with Madame. The current consensus is that everyone would like to save at least Madame from the station.

Zephyr has outlined an idea based on a suggestion from Enoch. Essentially, this option will give Madame a body, make her a mini-Chariot Unit to carry with her, and allow her to travel freely.

Individual characters may contribute up to 300 points in order to reach the 2,000 points required for this option. With that cap, it means at least 7 characters will need to contribute points in order to make this a reality. Please note point contributions HERE.

Hey Team,

As we enter our final week of the Libra's Chariot event, some decisions by the characters need to be made regarding the fate of the NPCs and the station itself.

The following information is available at this point for any character to have discovered:

  • The Docking Bay is repaired and there are shuttles with tractor beams that can move space debris and also potentially the station itself if enough are coordinated.

  • The asteroid critters are Tech Mimics that can be used to repair the station if they're shown how repair tools work and are directed to damaged areas.

  • A spare propulsion system can possibly be taken from Beta Station, which is nearby, but has gone unexplored.

  • There are no exterior shields for Libra Station, but something could potentially be put on to protect it from debris.

  • First Officer Forven Lau left behind a program that will allow characters to alter Madame and the MODs' directives at-will. Madame is unable to alter her directives and may crash temporarily if pushed on the point of them. The directive modification program was found by Meulin and Aeleus in the library before breech in the Recreation Bay occurred. The Bulletin Board notice of the finding of that card is here.

    Madame's current directives:
    1. Protect and maintain the Chariot Unit.
    2. Provide the crew with whatever assistance they request.

    The MODs' current directives:
    1. Conduct trials according to the Truth-seeker Code to bring justice to the people of Meridian.
    2. Obey all orders by the crew unless it conflicts with the first directive.
    3. Provide the crew with all requested and necessary assistance.
    4. Maintain Libra Station per Madame's orders.

  • The people in the Chariot Unit all appear to be slightly bored, young and middle-aged adults. There is a curious dearth of children or elderly individuals. Unfortunately, the screen to view the goings on inside the Chariot Unit was destroyed. Madame has noted that a physical transfer of data from the Chariot Unit would need to occur. She does not personally have access to data to transfer it. It will be up to the characters to do something.

All of that being said... time to make some decisions. The end of this event will depend heavily on the actions of characters participating and what they decide to do. Things to consider for plotting:
  1. Does your character want to save Libra Station, itself?
There ARE viable ways to do this that will protect the station from the debris field, repair the station, and potentially move it out of the debris field.

  2. Does your character want to save Madame?
There ARE viable ways to do this. She is currently unwilling to leave Libra Station due to her directives requiring her to protect the Chariot Unit, though. Characters would have to forcibly remove her, reprogram her, or find a way to bring the Chariot Unit with them.

  3. Does your character want to save the Chariot Unit?
There ARE viable ways to do this. Either by wishing for something from Zephyr... or if someone wants to do a final search of the Habitation Bay, there is something plot relevant there that will assist with this effort.

  4. Does your character want to save the MODs?
Why, tho? There ARE viable ways to do this. They can be reprogrammed with simple directives. They will not leave the station unless they are reprogrammed or the Chariot Unit is preserved.
Please leave a comment below with what actions your character(s) will be taking so that these can be pulled into play for the finale. Please also feel free to plot here with others for threads whether it's a fight or a group effort to do something in particular.

Hey Team,

It's a bit delayed, but we wanted to share with you the planned ending for the Cast In Shadow world hop.

Baku
In Japanese mythology, a baku is a supernatural creature that devours dreams and nightmares. Originally it was a spirit that children called on to eat nightmares so that they could return to sleep. However, the legend goes that calling on Baku too frequently and leaving it hungry could result in it devouring their hopes and desires as well.

In the event:
Baku was a being created from the hearts of those in Valinta and their desire to do away with the hardships of life. Essentially, they were a budding god of Complacency, meant to work in tandem with Agatha, who was a goddess of Choice. However, because of her domain, Agatha had no ability to enforce a choice on her people, and Baku being a newly created god, had no concept of sharing. The child NPC was the first to see Baku properly, claiming that the creature was his invisible friend that chased the bad things away. As time progressed (within the event), the population of Valintas began to unconsciously rely more heavily on Baku, who gained more power. Baku began to devour not just bad feelings, but all feelings, leaving the population of Valintas to wander through their lives without care or complaint--but also without much else either.

Once strong enough, Baku appeared in Mensilvas, where they staked out a domain in the deepest part of the forest. The characters would have been able to confront them there, and possibly fight them if it came to that. Defensive and a little hostile, Baku would have insisted that this is what the people wanted, and what they as a being were created for--to fulfill the wish that the people had inside their hearts. It would have been up to the players to convince both Baku and Agatha that there's more nuance in the wants of people, and more value in having just one or the other of them.

Possible endings:
1. Baku pushed out of Valintas, the hopes and desires of the people return to them. Agatha regains control and goes back to administering her domain as she did before.
2. Agatha and Baku share the world as dual gods, balancing their domains of Choice and Complacency.
3. Agatha disappears as a result of Baku taking over Valintas. The people remain in the state that they "wished" for.

Given the potential endings, we will be taking a poll on which you guys would have gone with if your characters had been able to play things out. Please cast your vote in the comments below. The poll will close Saturday, March 23rd, at 11:59 PM PST, and the ending will be handwaved for those who participated in that event.

VOTING HAS CLOSED
Poll Result
Characters have selected Option #2. Agatha and Baku ended up sharing the world of Valinta as dual gods, balancing their domains.

Hey Team,

Just some updates about what characters have been finding and that you might want to jump into if your character would be so inclined for the Libra's Chariot event.
  • Peter and Flynn have successfully repaired the Docking Bay door meaning anyone can open it and use the shuttles to travel! They have also discovered that the asteroid critters are Tech Mimics that can simulate (on a lower level) the technology they observe. This includes scanning, mimicking lights, and repairing things.

  • Flynn has discovered that the shuttles in the Docking Bay have tractor beams that could be used to pull debris

  • Royce has discovered that medical records that show most people aboard the station died from old age of accidents. A few have deaths listed as 'unknown' or 'missing.'

  • Justin discovers something about the attempts to keep the station population alive after it was decimated by a mutated virus.

  • Rhys discovers the names of last 10 remaining crew and their positions.

  • Eliza announces that she has schematics of the propulsion system that Libra Station lost and needs to escape the asteroid debris field it is trapped in.

  • Pokey announces some interesting messages on a datapad he found in the Storage Bay. It relates to the last person alive on Libra Station and the role of the MODs in the trials.

  • K announces finding another recording, this time of a mission to Beta Station to retrieve a replacement propulsion system.

On the 10th of March, residents of the Meadous will wake to a note from Zephyr at their bedside. It's the sort of direct and short communications they may be growing used to for the godling’s messages about other worlds.

Please meet me at the playground tomorrow at 3:00 PM. I know that's really early for some of you guys who are nocturnal, but this can't wait very long.

On the 17th of November, residents of the Meadous will wake to a note from Zephyr at their bedside. It's much shorter than it usually would be from the godling, and it's also much more direct.

Everyone,

I heard another voice across the planes. This one reached out to me, inviting me to visit. I don't know how to feel about that, but... I think we should go. I think she's in trouble and needs our help. That's the feeling I get.

Please meet me at the playground tomorrow at 3:00 PM. I know that's really early for some of you guys who are nocturnal, but this can't wait very long.
