Event: Penumbra (Plotting)
On April 25, residents of the Meadous will wake to a note from Zephyr at their bedside. Regardless of whether or not a character can normally read, they are able to understand it, though the writing is hurried and messy.

Something really bad has happened. My brother Tren is Lost and it's making his twin sister, Bren, really sick. I can't find him, but I can hear him! I think we can still help him but I can't do it by myself. Please come to the playground as quick as you can!

This event will entail the Meadous' seventh foray into world-hopping.
Zephyr has once again heard someone calling out across the planes and means to help them. On the morning of April 25, the archway on the path next to the playground will become active in the Mirror Dimension. Those with senses related to space/time will get a reading that there is something 'off' about it. Looking at it through the silver kaleidoscope located in the playground will show that the archway is covered and absolutely roiling with Stardust. Stardust is usually associated with living things.
Zephyr will be waiting at the playground as soon as characters have received their letters. They look very worried, and will explain the following:
Welcome to Penumbra.
Penumbra is a shared world governed by twins Bren and Tren, who are older siblings to Zephyr. The world is made up of two layers that coexist as different aspects of the same place, called Soul and Loon.
Soul is a bucolic physical world of rolling hills, lush meadows, and sun-dappled forests. Architecture tends toward simple, single-story buildings, and the residents tend to leave their mark on the land via gardening and landscaping of the wide open spaces in which they live rather than via heavy construction. It is always daytime in Soul, though it is not always sunny--rainshowers and storms come and go sporadically. Technology here is basic and life is lived slowly in the fresh air.
Loon is a world of energy where lights crackle against the eternal darkness and bright pathways allow almost instantaneous travel over great distances. There are forms and structures here: meeting places, stockpiles of information, even homes--but they are not architecture in the way a being from a physical world would typically understand it. At times the darkness is clear and still; at other times electric storms light up the world. Anything can be found or made in Loon with the right know-how, and life is lived at high speed.
The residents of Penumbra are a race of telepathic/telekinetic horses able to cross back and forth between Soul and Loon by passing through one of any number of ancient gateways. When in Soul, Penumbra's people become creatures of flesh and blood. When in Loon, they become living lightning in the shape of an equine body. Visitors from the Meadous who enter Loon will find that they, too, become creatures of lightning, retaining the shape of their own bodies.
Currently, Penumbra is in crisis as Tren has succumbed to the god sickness and become Lost. However, the sickness has been slowed down because Bren currently remains Unlost, and their shared world hasn't been Lost along with Tren...yet. Most of Zephyr's family is away helping Bren hold the world together or trying to get Tren back, but Zephyr has been left out of those efforts for fear that their Aspect is what's causing the sickness and might make things worse. Zephyr being Zephyr, though, they're determined to try to help.

- The archway is a portal to another world.
- The only access to the proper archway is through the Mirror Dimension. (Zephyr doesn't want anyone accidentally stumbling in there.)
- The archway is a two-way connection to another realm. They DO NOT have control over that other realm. The only thing they can make sure of there is that there are no other connections. Characters can go to the new realm from the Meadous and come back to the Meadous from the new realm.
- THIS MEANS THAT INJURY AND DEATH IN THE OTHER REALM IS OUTSIDE THEIR DIRECT CONTROL.
- They're not sure how Tren is calling for help. His voice sounds really far away and it's hard to understand him.

Kathryn is in charge of this plot and will be responding to questions, but this has been a joint mod planning effort. Terri and Sora will be playing some of the NPCs.
May I opt out?
Yes! Your character may choose not to enter Penumbra.
Can we talk to Zephyr?
Zephyr will be available in person at the start of the event, and via the usual means afterward.
Why are there whisps of color talking to my character?
The Colors were originally found in the Void, a world the residents of the Meadous visited (and helped!). Since then, they've turned up in the Meadous. A description of the Colors, how they behave, and the benefits they can bestow on those who gather them can be found here.
NEW UNIVERSE! Can my space-hopping character go hog wild and escape the Meadous?
No. That is the only real vestige of control Zephyr retains over characters' travel to Penumbra. Characters can universe hop between the Meadous and Soul/Loon, but that's it.
What about powers in general?
Zephyr's training wheels are more or less off on character powers in Penumbra. Characters will be fully powered over there with the exception of game-breaking abilities. Please use discretion and make sure you talk to your fellow players if your actions are going to have a major impact on their characters.
What if we die in Penumbra?
Zephyr has very minimal control and connection to Penumbra. If your character dies, Zephyr will work frantically to pull them back; their body will disappear from Soul (or their dispersed electrical form from Loon) within a few hours, but the character will remain dead for 3 days before Zephyr is able to resurrect them within the Meadous. After this period, characters who have died will reappear in their own homes feeling very groggy and a bit queasy for an additional day. Zephyr will be very distressed by such an event and may prevent characters who have been killed in Penumbra from going back there again.
Can I bring NPCs from Penumbra into the Meadous?
It may be possible to persuade NPCs to travel through the portal to the Meadous, but they are not capable of residing in Zephyr's world permanently.

I noticed in her powers info that she has a sensitivity/weakness to darkness and shadow. Is that only in relation to darkness as a metaphor or representation of evil and/or a propensity for wrongdoing?

Darkness in her canon is very much Evil/wrongdoing/moral taint as it were. It has a feeling and a stench for her depending on degree, and true darkness can make her very ill if she has to touch it. Likewise being near her can have a discomfiting effect on said Darkness (sadly usually means darkness wants to swat people like her but hey they don't play fair).
