State of the Game Conversation. Any and all questions and concerns be brought here (or my plurk) so I will address them all.
I am having to do this from my phone, because I am still computerless, but this is going to be a discussion about various things that has brought to our attention. And we do want to improve. Modding WTL was designed to be modded by two people, and with me being computerless for the past month, it has been thrusted upon Sora- and with this being the first game she has modded and only been able to contact me by Txting. So I am stepping in here.
FIRST THING: August is our one year anniversary for WTL so the AC for next month will be you commenting to the AC post that you still want to play in the game. If you did AC this month-you get the points back in August. If you did not pass AC this month/asked for a save /just forgot/YOLO'd out/were unable to you don't get any points back next month BUT you also don't have to do the double the AC requirements for next month (unless you want to type that you still want to play twice. But hey-thats awesome too) we understand everyone has had a lot of things come up this summer. We all have been stressed out and it has caused us not to be on top of our proverbial and literal game.
Which is why I am seeing August-with the plot and all as a time to turn a new page and shake off our dirt and keep on going. Sora and I both know everyone wants this game to thrive. And I will admit-we're still working out the kinks. Which I want addressed here, so we can figure out the best things for everyone. Which brings me to... THE SECOND THING: After some discussion, Sora and I feel it will be best to bring in a third party to help. Games tend to work well when are at least three mods IMHO. That is if something happens (Like a mod losing her computer for much longer than expected) There will be at least no one sharing the full burden of being a mod. I would like player nominations-then Sora and I will talk to the nominees two on one so we can see who is our missing piece for the mod team! Sora tends to be very just the facts and I tend to beat around the bush forever until the bush is nothing more then some leaves and twigs, because I have beaten it so much.
Neither method on its own is super good, one style seems like it doesn't allow room while the other one is just too vague! Which brings me to POINT THREE. We have had some issues about the plot and wishes that we need fleshed out and fined tuned into a well oiled game machine because TBH when this game first started, we didn't think the type of wishes we would get would happen so we were kind of grasping at straws to what would be fair.
Which also showed us some holes we had. We would try and step in to try and fix the holes, but sometimes it would just because a mess because we were all confused. Which is why we are going to redo the wish system for requesting wishes. Involving asking For details and we are going to have an open post for people to make faux wish suggestions, best number of points to use and how such wishes could be taken and affect the game in ways that seem somewhat 'oh no-this is getting kinda extreme' ways.Which we worry about, because we made the game to be where characters would heal themselves and sometimes, that does involve lanceting the wounds and making it worse for a while (such as the Pai plot, we were hoping as mods, the characters would see what they are keeping from themselves and help each other and themselves-while being able to call each other out for the bad parts of themselves people have).
This is also why we are going to work on making a timeline and plot goals. Because this game has a plot, but most of the plot is affected by the character actions (like we are trying to empathize heavily in the current plot). Which is also why we are looking at getting another mod on the team. Because we will admit-when you're up to your elbows in something you can't see all of it. So its good to have that third party to go 'Amanda-that idea is pants on head silly. Stop while you're ahead.'
Terri suggested a plot calendar which we think is an awesome idea, which would allow people to poke us and go 'ha thats silly. Stop it.' Or perhaps go 'Actually, that would be better there and there instead of there!' Because we do want WTL to be a story we all write. And darn it sometimes its hard to do if there is only one person with all the cards instead of many people. And we do want player input.
Which brings me to the FOURTH thingy. When suggesting events and plots, we do want a reason WHY it would happen. Because plots and events do shape the world, for example an event was suggested that everyone tends to have boat loads of fun with but unfortunately it had to be nixed because we couldn't think of how or why it would happen. This is why when something is suggested, give us ideas to why it would happen. For example if we want an event where everyone says only the truth or what's on their mind with no filter, it is because someone taught the bab 'honesty and truth are always the best policy'. And it would affect the world like so at the end, which helps us a lot to see how things that would be big would affect things.
So now, because I think I have talked everyones ears off- please comment with any ideas/suggestions/ect that you can think of. You can also send me a private plurk as well. To private plurk me- do so and I will just post a summary (without naming names) of what went down (on my plurk). Because I will admit that is one reason I get kind of urpy at anon- its hard to have a conversation and toss around the idea ball that way! You can also contact me on kik, deifyapotheosis if you so wish.
