Event: Libra's Chariot (Plotting)

On the 10th of March, residents of the Meadous will wake to a note from Zephyr at their bedside. It's the sort of direct and short communications they may be growing used to for the godling’s messages about other worlds.

Everyone,

I heard another voice across the planes. She says she can’t do this alone. She’s been alone for too long.

Please meet me at the playground tomorrow at 3:00 PM. I know that's really early for some of you guys who are nocturnal, but this can't wait very long.

Love,
Zephyr

LIBRA’S CHARIOT

The Events Calendar post for the plot is HERE

This event will entail the Meadous' fifth foray into world-hopping.

Zephyr has, once more, heard someone calling out across the planes and means to help them. On the morning of March 10th, the archway on the path next to the playground will become active in the Mirror Dimension. Those with senses related to space/time will get a reading that there is something 'off' about it. Looking at it through the silver kaleidoscope located in the playground will show that the archway is covered and absolutely roiling with Stardust. Stardust is usually associated with living things.

Zephyr will turn up at the appointed time and explain the following:
  • The archway is a portal to another world.
  • The only access to the proper archway is through the Mirror Dimension. (Zephyr doesn't want anyone accidentally stumbling in there.)
  • The archway is a two-way connection to another realm. They DO NOT have control over that other realm. The only thing they can make sure of there is that there are no other connections. Characters can go to the new realm from the Meadous and come back to the Meadous from the new realm.
  • THIS MEANS THAT INJURY AND DEATH IN THE OTHER REALM IS OUTSIDE THEIR DIRECT CONTROL.
  • They're not sure who was calling for help. Zephyr couldn't make out any words except ‘justice.’.
As for the new realm...

Welcome to Libra Station, home of Chariot Unit Receptacle 13.

Stepping aboard, characters will be able to find the following information very easily via intuitive touchscreen interfaces scattered about the station:
  • Libra Station is part of the Chariot Launch Program, an effort by the planet of Meridian to preserve its people ahead of a predicted meteor strike.
  • Everyone had their consciousness copied and uploaded into one of three Chariot Units and these were launched into space around the planet.
  • Beta, Delta, and Libra are the stations circling Meridian… or the asteroid field that was once Meridian if characters take a gander out the windows.
  • Libra station is completely devoid of organic life.
There are two artificial beings, though. Madame, the stationwide AI and her assistant, the Multi-Operational Droid (MOD). They will be very pleased to have the people of the Meadous aboard. Now they can continue the parts of their mission that have been abandoned the past many years!

The MOD has been tasked with assigning organic crewmembers to participate in the Truth-Seeker Justice System. There are a plethora of crimes that were committed prior to launching the Chariot Units. It’s the MOD and Truth-Seeker’s job to identify and punish criminals with immediate release of the truth to all immediate acquaintances and subsequent deletion of the criminal from the Chariot Unit. This is where you come in!

Unfortunately, even as computer code, there’s so much information that the MOD cannot process human memories and emotions. Organic brains are far superior computers and will be used as such. Characters who visit Libra Station may be randomly selected to have memories of potential NPC criminals and NPC witnesses implanted into their heads. This is so that the Truth-Seeker (another lucky random selection) can ask questions and determine the Truth of the matter.

Truth-Seekers will be both investigators and judges. They will ask questions of the potential criminal and any witnesses, and ultimately determine if a potential criminal is guilty. There will be no pain to a PC if the NPC whose memories they’ve received is deleted. No physical pain, anyway. Just the knowledge for everyone involved that they’ve deleted that particular NPC from the Chariot Unit permanently. And that all of the facts that came out at ‘trial’ will be disseminated to the nearest and dearest to both the guilty NPCs and their victims.

But while all of that is going on, there’s another problem. Libra Station is in danger of being destroyed by the meteor field it’s been trapped in for millenia. The propulsion system has been lost. Neither of the other stations can be raised on the comms. It will be up to the characters to sort out how to fix this… or if they want to let the station be destroyed for good. After all, there’s nothing really alive here.

tl;dr version
  • Libra Station is a space station home to artificial lifeforms and the digital copies of people who once lived on Meridian; it is slowly being destroyed by space debris.
  • Characters may be randomly selected to become a Truth-Seeker or to house the memories of a potential criminal or witness during a ‘trial.’ The Truth-Seeker will ultimately decide the fate of a potentially-criminal NPC. Those found guilty will be deleted.
  • The goal is to figure out what to do about THAT whole system and to maybe help figure out a way to fix Libra Station so that it can maneuver out of the debris field it’s trapped in... Or not. That choice is up to the characters!

I hope I didn't miss it but will Truth-Seekers be made aware of the consequences of their verdict beforehand? Will they know about the deletion punishment or will they merely be informed of their general jury duty?
