The 4th Wall Poll!

Hey Team,

While we are in the middle of our current world hop, we also have a 4th Wall coming up from December 15th to December 29th! This event, Beta Testing, will involve the creation of a video game. But we want a little input from you on what you'd like to see. Specifically, what genre of game should this be and what elements of that genre are must-haves? To determine this, there are different categories listed below. Please post to only one game category to vote for it and please note any elements you specifically would like to see. You can include links to example games or short videos of mechanics. The genre that receives the most votes will win and be used for the event, but we'll keep the others in mind for future events!

Game Genres
  • Racing Game
  • Shooter Game (stealth or FPS)
  • Survival/Exploration
  • RPG
  • Platform Game (with levels)
  • Sports Game
  • Party Game (think Mario Party)
The poll will be open until Friday, 12/14.

Poll Closed

Winner is Survival/Exploration!

I admittedly don't really know enough about video games and classifications to fully understand what divides and separates all these styles. Where, for example, would something like Golden Sun fall in comparison to, idk, spyro the dragon? Is survival/exploration only things that are meadous-esque like Animal Crossing, minecraft, or stardew as has been described below? Or would that also covering something to the style of, say, The Last Of Us or Dragon Age?

(TL;DR I want to put my vote toward something strongly story-based, that moves around the given video world and will be easier to thread than building stuff, but i'm not truly sure what I'm voting on.)

God so many of these options are very good and potentially super funny but I think I have to go with Survival/Exploration for the sake of seeing who among us would immediately try to tunnel to hell and who'd stand around crafting hats for five hours straight. If we go with RPGs instead please include hat crafting for me.

yeah good point actually mods please include hat crafting regardless of genre or tonal appropriateness

I also think Minecraft/Stardew/Terraria type things sound like the most fun and the most relaxing or challenging for characters, since they can chose the level of difficulty. like they can build a house and defend it from creepers/slimes/bats or they can go on adventures to find loot with maybe like Goals you'd have in those games?

like with NPCs who give you little quests like "hey can you grow like five radishes for me" and the characters are like "but radishes take like forever to grow" and then it turns out radishes take like, 2 days, because Stardew. it'd be easy to mix it up with the RPG stuff too? because you definitely have NPCs that say the same 4 phrases over and over, as well as a mix of quests like "yay you made a wood sword!" to "you have defeated the wall of flesh after descending to hell"

I am extremely video game illiterate (to the point that I'm sitting here like "platform game? party game? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN"), but I an exploration game sounds fun!

Voting for Stardew Valley, the chillest of survival games.

Definitely RPG!

I'd love to see some particularly stylised stuff from older RPGs, like NPC villagers that can only cycle through the same four sentences, someone with relevant plot info having an exclamation mark over their head, and maybe important items being in chests or hidden behind stupidly complex locks that require weird side games to be played to get the keys.

Being able to play as typical RPG classes would be fun, especially since I can imagine everyone yelling at everyone else to do their jobs properly - what do you mean, healers aren't supposed to bonk things on the head all the time?

Also, annoying fetch quests, because irrelevant NPCs need twenty bee stings to make you a hat.

Oh man yes, fetch quests would be great (and hilarious).

RPG! I'd just like to see something different from the norm seeing as the meadous pretty much already is stardew/minecraft/etc.

Will family and friend relations strain with this game? Inquiring minds need to know survival of the fittest
