The 4th Wall Poll!
Hey Team,
While we are in the middle of our current world hop, we also have a 4th Wall coming up from December 15th to December 29th! This event, Beta Testing, will involve the creation of a video game. But we want a little input from you on what you'd like to see. Specifically, what genre of game should this be and what elements of that genre are must-haves? To determine this, there are different categories listed below. Please post to only one game category to vote for it and please note any elements you specifically would like to see. You can include links to example games or short videos of mechanics. The genre that receives the most votes will win and be used for the event, but we'll keep the others in mind for future events!

Questions
Re: Questions
(TL;DR I want to put my vote toward something strongly story-based, that moves around the given video world and will be easier to thread than building stuff, but i'm not truly sure what I'm voting on.)

Spyro the Dragon would be a platform game.
RPGs and platform games can both have strong story elements. The major difference between these two genres would be the world presentation. An RPG is typically a fluid world. You have quests and story elements that may take you between certain areas. A platform game is more contained. It's your standard levels format where you go through portals to reach certain new levels. Different areas with level groupings may have a particular theme. Think the snow levels in Crash Bandicoot versus the Jungle levels. RPGs have a more "natural" transition between areas and typically include features like random encounters, rather than platform games, which will have identified enemies that you can engage or avoid. You have a much simpler stats menu for platform games, as well, typically only a health bar, versus more elaborate magical bars and special status ailments that require particular spells or items to cure. RPGs also may feature parties, whereas a typical platform game has just the main protagonist going about their business alone.
Survival/exploration would include things in the vein of Animal Crossing/Minecraft, as well as Don't Starve. The Last of Us or Dragon Age would fall into the RPG category.

like with NPCs who give you little quests like "hey can you grow like five radishes for me" and the characters are like "but radishes take like forever to grow" and then it turns out radishes take like, 2 days, because Stardew. it'd be easy to mix it up with the RPG stuff too? because you definitely have NPCs that say the same 4 phrases over and over, as well as a mix of quests like "yay you made a wood sword!" to "you have defeated the wall of flesh after descending to hell"

Re: RPG
I'd love to see some particularly stylised stuff from older RPGs, like NPC villagers that can only cycle through the same four sentences, someone with relevant plot info having an exclamation mark over their head, and maybe important items being in chests or hidden behind stupidly complex locks that require weird side games to be played to get the keys.

Also, annoying fetch quests, because irrelevant NPCs need twenty bee stings to make you a hat.
