Tombs and Taverns - OOC Information & Sign Ups

Hey guys! This is Flurry, coming to you with the plotting post for Tombs and Taverns, a plot I’ll be running on January 19th. One of Zephyr’s classmates, a godling named Eefri, has a little text adventure type thing prepared for your characters.

The layout is going to basically be either characters can follow the text adventure plot, or just play around open-world style in the little town that’s been put together. There will be a lot to do in both parts, though the open-world stuff will mostly be hands-off from me. The text adventure will be much more moderated, in a sense.

Basically, characters will wake up in a tavern, find a note from an NPC telling them to meet him somewhere, and then be unleashed onto the world. If they follow the text adventure, they can recruit an NPC (just one if you’re taking one, please!) and then head to a mansion where they have to solve two puzzle/task rooms and then defeat the big boss of the game. If they don’t follow the text adventure, they can screw around in town, buy stuff, and explore. This is all in first person, and would be experienced as if they were actually physically in the game.

So, in order to prepare for this, I’ve got a few things for you guys, and a few questions!

First, if your character is going to participate, they’ll need to come up with a character race, class, and appearance. Play fast and loose with the appearance - I’m not going to call Gary Gygax on you if your dragonborn has a tail and wings, or if your tiefling has fangs and a pitchfork. As for race and class, here are your choices! Your character can create an avatar for themselves, or your character can just be themselves in the game, though their race/class would likely be picked by the game (which is something you can OOCly put together for what suits them best). For instance, if Royce chose to play the game as himself, the game would default him as a half-elf rogue. Keep in mind also that they can just import what they look like and screw around with the character creation, too. Following that example, Royce could change himself to be a half-orc warrior that still vaguely resembles him, too.

RACES
-- Human. Self explanatory. Your typical human.
-- Elf. The kind you might see in a LOTR movie.
-- Dwarf. Also the kind you might see in a LOTR movie.
-- Gnome. Tiny humanoids; think WoW.
-- Dragonborn. Six to seven foot humanoid dragons; think walking, talking dragon.
-- Halfling. Small humanoids with slightly pointed ears and furry feet.
-- Half-orc. Half human, half orc! Possibly green. I don’t know your life.
-- Half-elf. Half human, half elf! All of the positives of both races, honestly.
-- Tiefling. Humanoids with a demonic twist.
-- Tabaxi. Catlike humanoids.

CLASSES
As for the classes, there are quite a few. Each class has three abilities that are unique to that class, and may come in handy for a lot of situations. These abilities are the ones that each class will receive. The first skill listed can be used whenever. The second skill you can use three times a day, and the third is a once per life ability.
FIGHTERS
Attack. You hit a thing with a sword. Or an axe, whatever you want.
Shield. Defend yourself with a shield, or your amour - or defend someone else.
Inspire. With a rallying shout, or with a shounen protagonist speech, you inspire both other characters and NPCs to do whatever they’re doing, but better.
CLERICS
Heal. I need healing! I need healing! I need healing!
Revive. All your friends are dead, but not for long.
Divine Intervention. Calling upon your god, you can ask for a hint on what to do next, or do a mass version of heal or revive.
WIZARDS
Spell. Use fire, water, air and earth to do your bidding.
Create Object. Need a bowl? A door? A dagger? Just create one.
Arcane Knowledge. Using your extensive knowledge of the magical arts, you can figure out exactly what kind of magic you’re looking at, or recall something about magic that might give you the upper hand.
BARDS
Sing/Instrument. Anyway, here’s Wonderwall. You can do damage (by mocking someone) or put them to sleep.
Charm. Everybody around you thinks you’re rad, and are likely to give you things.
Disguise Self. Or someone else, if you’d like. You can make someone look like a goblin, or like Fabio. Or both. It’s pretty convincing; most people won’t see through this sort of illusion.
DRUIDS
Vines. Call upon nature to vinewhip some baddies, or touch things you’d rather not touch.
Become Creature. See that bear? You could be that bear, if you believe hard enough.
Speak with Animals. Haven’t you always wanted to ask your dog what she’s thinking? You can do just that with this ability, though it doesn’t give you much past that. You still have to convince the squirrels to arm themselves if you want to use them in battle.
MONKS
Punch. Self explanatory.
Catch Projectile. If someone tries to shoot you or a friend, you can just reach out and pluck that bullet/arrow out of mid-air and throw it back at your attacker.
Tranquility. Your presence calms hostile parties when you use this ability, and convinces them to peacefully talk the problem out rather than resort to fighting.
PALADINS
Holy Smite. Lay the smackdown on these heathens with a blow of holy fire.
Bless. Give your buddies a bit of extra luck. Whatever they’re doing, they can do twice as well.
Divine Surge. Calling on your god, you can either use Zone of Truth to make everybody around you tell the truth, or use the power of divinity to command people to do exactly what you want, exactly once.
RANGERS
Bow and Arrow. Shoot something, like an enemy or a target.
Track. Need to know where someone (or something) went? You can figure out where with this ability.
Detect Traps. Let’s make sure we’re not walking into an ambush. Or into a long tunnel with a huge rock at the end of it. You can also disarm traps with this same ability.
ROGUES
Sneak attack. Get right up behind those enemies and trip them up. Literally or figuratively.
Pick locks. Got a door that won’t open? A chest, maybe? Unlock that sucker with ease.
Group stealth. You have a place you want to get to, and you want to get there without anybody seeing you? Just drop a invisible grenade. It makes up to 10 people really, really hard to see for a full hour.

SIGNUPS AND TRIVIA

Two last things: first, I’m going to have signups for groups in the comments. If your character is going to participate, let me know who is going to be in that group and if you’re taking an NPC along with you (and which one). NPCs are first come, first served - there should be more than enough for everybody, but there can’t be duplicates of them running around, for continuity reasons. I also want to make it COMPLETELY clear: you don’t get any significant advantages if you bring an NPC along with you. It’s just for flavor, or if you want to play the text adventure but don’t have a group. If you change your mind later and want to change whether you are bringing an NPC or aren’t, that’s also fine! I just kind of want to get an idea of what I’m looking at here.

Finally, there will be a section where characters are going to have to answer questions. I’m being vague on purpose. But! I need help with this, so. If you’re participating (or even if you’re not and still want to), please leave two to three trivia questions/answers down below about your character. These trivia questions should be facts about your characters that people in the Meadous may or may not know (and that characters would be comfortable with sharing). These questions might be something like “What is the name of Alfie Solomons and Royce Melborn’s dog?” and cannot be invasive or intensely personal. For instance, Eefri and Zephyr would not include questions like “Who did Monty Navarro kill during one of the world hops?” because that’d be terrible and mean and sad. And not guessable.

I'll likely backtag for a while after the event officially ends (don't worry, snowbos, I'm right there with you on that endgame stuff) so!

And I think that’s everything! If you have any questions (or want to suggest fun stuff for me to throw in) lemme know down below.
