In her canon, Rin is from a school for disabled students (she herself is a double amputee, lacking both arms) so she probably has at least a vague understanding of Japanese Sign Language, even if she's not quite fluent at it. So if you'd like we could handwave that she's able to vaguely sort of understand Meulin in person?

Also, because she's from a certain canon point in Ryslig, Rin will appear as a smol green goblin. So the fact that they're nonhumans could be a bonding point too? Idk it's just an idea
